Charlie proabably realizes that Cosgrove isn't doing too bad this year
given the personnel he has, particularly in our defensive backfield. We
all knew this when the year started, but it's been lost on some of you. On
of our starting cornerbacks was a running back last year. Get that?

Let's look at what Cosgrove has been blessed with so far in his two years.
Last year he had a group of guys who were good athletes but didn't buy
into his system, and didn't bother playing defense for the second half of
the season. The ones that wanted to leave early left, leaving us nearly
blank in our defensive backfield. We lost the best tackler in the history
of the program. The guys that stayed decided to play defense, but other
than the front four, we don't have a lot of experience. In the secondary,
we overall might be beyond mediocre, we might be bad.

What do you do with a defense like that? Instead of being consistent, it's
feast or famine. When you as defensive coordinator make the right call,
you feast. You don't, it's famine. I'm not 100% sold on Cosgrove, but the
cards he's been dealt have been pretty crappy cards so far.

Good, then we can finally stop complaining about all of it and start over.
Or at least those of you who want to dig that deep to find meaningless
streaks like this that are ending will have to do even more work to find
something worth complaining about.

Agreed, disappointing loss. Not the end of the world, though. The next
three games are up in the air. KU beat Mizzou, so we must lose to KU since
they're now at world-beater status? OSU is leading Texas at this point,
but does that make OSU a better team?

Speaking of Steve Pederson.... the biggest positive lately is that this
guy has been completely silent, at least for those of us who are out of
state. He's a three monkey guy - hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil.
I like that. Perhaps if he keeps this up for a while the program will be
fine.

If you're taking any crap from Florida fans even after their win over
Georgia, you have more problems than Nebraska football being mediocre.

This constant disappointment is about expectations. What you want it to be
versus what it is. I have no clue as to why anyone would think we'd win
the North this year, but there's a lot of you who expect it because it's
what you want, not what might happen. Like I have said before, we need to
get to a bowl game for this year to be successful for me. This team has
some pretty obvious holes. If we overcome them, but win enough games, I'm
happy.
