The problem wasn't that the games weren't full of tension and drama, it's
that Fox has NO CLUE how to televise that kind of game. In this case,
they didn't know how to televise the entire Series.
Last night they were flashing back to plays from earlier innings or other
games so often that I was having trouble figuring out if the play I was
watching was live or not.
Pitching duels are hard to televise, and Fox botched last night's game
almost as badly as did the Houston manager in the 7th.
But the abilty to appreciate a pitcher's duel (despite a bad TV production)
is what separates baseball viewers from real fans. My mother and I once
attended a game in which one pitcher had a perfect game for six innings
and a no-hitter going into the eighth, while the other pitcher had a no
hitter through the 7th. By the 5th inning she was bored to death and I
was on the edge of my seat for every pitch. When the home team scored
4 runs in the 8th, she got much more interested.
Fox does a somewhat better job with football, but that's because in many ways
football is easier to televise, all you need is a dozen cameras and announcers
who know when to shut up and let the pictures do the talking. Also, they
hired a bunch of people who KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING!
