I live in the Chicago area and barely remember the 1959 World Series. My
wife and I tried to get tickets to this year's Series, but tickets sold out
in 18 minutes and ticket brokers were asking way too much. I heard several
people say it was cheaper to buy plan tickets, get a hotel room and buy
tickets than it would be to buy just a ticket in Chicago.
I stayed up Tuesday night until the 13th inning watching that 14-inning
victory and, of course, stayed with them through the end last night. Can you
believe Uribe's catch in the 9th inning?
To me, the Sox victory compares to Nebraska's 94 MNC because both the Sox
and the Huskers dominated their season...but nobody nationally paid
attention until the end.
Side note: I work for a Chicago commercial bank and one of our customers
caught the Konerko grand slam ball from Sunday's game. It is stored in his
safe deposit box here at the bank until he decides what to do with it. He is
leaning towards giving it to Konerko in exchange for memorabilia and/or
season tickets.
