[Husker] Why

Roger, I think the real question is why does Cosgrove seem to start with
such a tentative, prevent defense-type game plan against any team that is
remotely good? I believe he started both of the losses with a 3-man rush.

I was extremely disappointed with the defensive calls immediately after
Nunn's fumble when Mizzou got the ball on the 3. The announcers kept saying
"here comes the blitz" but they were pretty lame blitzes, basically 4 guys
rushing normally with a linebacker trying to run around one end or the other.
Personally, as soon as Mizzou got the ball on the 3, I was yelling for them to
bring 6 guys hard like they did on the play where Tiedke rang Smith's bell, and
the play where they sacked Frank Costa for a safety (sorry, wrong decade),
and many other successful, attacking, defensive plays.

I may be naive, but anytime the other team is inside their own 5, I would
like to see the blackshirts account for every receiver, have 1 safety back in
the middle, and bring the other 6 or 7 guys to go for the safety. If we get
burned sometime, so be it, but no guts, no glory.

Bomar isn't even remotely the QB that Smith or the TT guy are. Here's
hoping that they put heat on him from the opening play and don't play prevent
until OU has 14 points.
