My guess is Yahoo did their math wrong or counted some plays differently,
possibly both.
I've always felt it is incorrect to subtract sacks from the rushing
yardage, but that's how the NCAA computes statistics.
However, even ignoring the sacks and other losses the Huskers had only
48 yards in positive rushing plays, and most of the time that won't
win, regardless of what the passing game does.
NU outgained Missouri in the air, but the absence of a ground game was a
big factor. Regardless of what people think of the WCO, a one-dimensional
team is going to have trouble winning consistently unless that dimension
is OVERWHELMING (as was the case for most of Osborne's final five years).
This team is not overwhelming anybody right now. Its a good thing their
next three opponents also are underwhelming, otherwise I'd say the Huskers
could be staying home for Christmas. I predict they will go 2-2 the
rest of the season and get an early bowl game. CU is the best team in the
Big XII North right now, though that still isn't saying much.
BTW, did people see the numbers Northwestern put up against Michigan State?
Now there's a 5-2 team that deserves to be ranked!
