[Husker] Smith

This brings up a good point that seems to bother me more and more and
that is the lack of fundamental football at all levels. As Scott says he
was taught to just drop to the ground I was taught on a fumble that you
just get on the ball. I even cost myself a TD freshman year in HS
because I did as I was coached and just jumped on the ball. I see team
cost themselves turnovers because everyone is trying to pick the ball up
and run with it. I could see LB's and DB's doing this but guys like me
in the trenches didn't need to be anywhere near the ball unless we are
recovering it. Now every D lineman is trying to pick the ball up and
score. About the only level I can excuse it is the pro level but
everything other level should be about getting the turnover and not the
turnover and the score unless a special circumstance prevails. I firmly
believe that Le Kevin has been coached to pick the ball up or pick it
off and run. Callahan can mouth that he should have just fallen during
the game but when you're constantly coaching a kid to try and get the
ball and score you can't get to upset.

Just my $.02 worth!

Sean

if you have played football and you intercept a pass what is your first
thought. It is to run.

I did play football, and I was taught that when you are 90 yards away
from the end zone and you get a fumble recovery or a pick, you go down
regardless, especially if 7 of the 11 players on the other team are way
faster than you. Did Smith really think he was going to return the pick
for a td? Sure, I probably overreacted saying he shouldn't play the rest
of the year. There is just no excuse for trying to run that pick back, I
don't care what anyone says. Now if the play occurs on the Tech 5 yard
line, that' sone thing, but to pull that on your own 10 is simply dumb.
