I loved the motion and shifting that Cosgrove put in
place in the 2nd quarter and beyond, and the blitzes
were well-designed. I give Cosgrove lots of credit
there for inventiveness.
But I still have to be bewildered as to why Cosgrove
kept the defense on a leash until we were down 21-0.
I understand the thought behind wanting to get a feel
for the flow of the game, but by that time, the game
was inching closer to getting out of hand. Watching
Tech, it's really much more risky to not blitz than to
blitz. Give them time to throw, and the completion is
almost automatic. Perhaps if you have a shutdown
secondary, you might be able to get away with a
minimal rush, but we don't have that.
Speaking of shifting, notice that the complex shifting
has disappeared once again from the offense?
