I think you have to have been a college coach (or at least an assistant)
for a few years before you're put on the short list for the coaches poll.

As I recall Solich was asked to be a voter when he took over at Nebraska
(Osborne had been a voter, of course) and now that Frank's employed as 
a head coach again he was apparently asked to be a voter again.  Good
for him!

They also like 'top 25' schools to have their coaches in the poll, so 
assuming Nebraska gets back to being a top 25 school eventually Callahan 
will be asked to be a voter, possibly as soon as next year.  

However, not all coaches want to be voters, which is probably why only 
2 schools in the Big XII North are represented this year.

I am convinced that, despite records, coaches vote for fellow conference teams more often than not, since this may help to boost schedule strength for them. In other words, Bob Stoops should vote for Nebraska in the coaches poll, so this will help Nebraska's ranking ever so slightly and make it seem like OU is playing a better team when the time comes. Not to mention having more ranked teams when bowl selection rolls around always helps the conference as well. Just a thought.
