No, not really.  The only rule that could possibly apply would be if
they finished in the top 4 overall, and got a guaranteed BCS spot.  That
might have protected K State in 98, but doesn't come close to helping
Colorado this year.

Want an example?  Last year CU also won the Big 12 North, and lost to
OU.  They played UTEP in the Houston Bowl.

Isn't there a 'rule' that prevents the losing participant in the
conference championship game from falling too far in the bowl selection
process?  If I recall correctly, it was precipitated by Nebraska being
selected ahead of K-State for the Holiday Bowl after the Wildcats had
beaten the Huskers, won the North Division, then lost in the
championship game.
