Subject: [Husker] Huge win
What a win today. This is the best I've felt after a Husker game in a
long time, I can only assume the players and coaches feel the same.
>It's been a while since I had that feeling and getting that feeling
back against the Vermin just was icing on the cake! >
The time situation just before the half was amazing, even the announcers
commented on the apparent screw job the Huskers got. And, just when that
seemed unreal, Barnett calls going to the no huddle an insult. My
friends and I were going berserk at that comment, I sincerely hope the
players caught wind of it in the locker room, but I doubt it. Barnett,
tell your defense to step up and stop something, and then maybe you can
talk about how insulting it is to see the no huddle. That comment made
ZERO sense. Colorado looked about as soft as a team as I've ever seen,
not sure what they've been doing for 2 weeks. Either way, they kept the
screws tightened in the second half, probably the most dominating
performance on both sides of the ball in the Callahan era. Colorado quit
in the 4th quarter, and the Husker players knew it. I wouldn't even mind
seeing Colorado get to the Big 12 game, this game took the air right out
of them- Texas would beat them by 4 touchdowns, and I'd get to s!
ee Barnett's red face steaming on the sidelines again. What a joke.
>About the only time I've seen Barnett's face look redder was after
62-35 shellacking they gave us and then the subsequent snub for the
Vermin and Barnett for the MNC game. He had trouble contemplating that a
two loss team wasn't going to make it to the title game. I would also
put the Barnett 'no huddle is an insult' comment right up there with his
comments about Katie Hnida (sp?) the female kicker. Gary must enjoy the
flavor of his shoes! I also think that the Vermin didn't give up as they
were just in shock in how we dominated them, especially after the mid
field crap after warm ups. >
As for the fans, I'm surprised that this stuff continues to go on there.
The entire state of Colorado should be embarassed by the behavior at
these games, it just seems surreal that this crap is allowed to happen
over and over. My only question is, what on earth did the refs keep
going to Barnett for- what would he have been able to do?
>Most of the trouble came from the student section whom most of them are
from other states and could give a rat's bum less about the image of
Colorado. Just don't take away their ability to party. To tell you the
truth I actually got a kick out of this. When they cleared the whole
student section that was just priceless. There's even a picture in the
Weird Herald of a student being told to leave by security. I may have to
cut it out and frame it for posterity's sake. I will help make up for
all the snow balls they threw at our kicker in '91.>
And I think it's a bit obvious (at least to me anyway) why Beck has not
seen the field too much this season. He simply is not ready yet. I
realize you can't judge a kid by mop up time, but the plays they called
for Beck were the same as the ones for Taylor. Taylor makes Beck look
like a Pop Warner player at this point, hopefully Beck and him slug it
out next Fall.
> Beck looked every bit the freshman in his mop up duty. I was a little
disappointed with his demeanor on the field. He always seemed to have a
scowl on his face and was very visibly upset when he had to take a TO or
if he thought that the play wasn't coming in fast enough. It was almost
like a child getting ready to throw a temper tantrum. Some maturity in
the off season should help correct this, especially if he follows
Taylor's lead. >
Did anyone think this team could be 8-4 (with a bowl win) about 4 weeks
ago?
>Not me and I will also give credit where credit is due and that is that
the Husker coached drew up a great game plan and made the adjustments
when needed. I was worried after that first big run of CU's opening
drive. It had way too many shades of 2001 but it was the only big play
for CU. I have been one to bash Cosgrove but he really did a heck of a
job yesterday. Hopefully we can keep it up!>
