Greetings Husker Faithful!
I haven't written anything to the list all season long for several
reasons (mostly due to work. We've got a rocket in the field and one in
integration. Yes Virginia, I am a rocket scientist.)
At any rate, this came could have been for the winner of the North. But
alas, it was not to be. There has been lamenting on this list at the game
play of our beloved young men in Scarlet and Cream.
I for one am proud, damn proud at this team. They reversed a tough three
game skip with an awesome win over Kansas State. Who by the way had a
three year winning streak against our boys! Beating the Wildcats was a
milestone of sorts (it was losing to the them that started the down turn
of Nebraska football, in my opinion).
There has been some lamenting at the 'lose of tradition', etc. To that I
say balderdash! I don't know how many on the list were athletes at
Nebraska, I didn't play football - I swam there for three years.
There is a tradition among the sports programs there, that tradition is
not quitting and showing your heart. This is what it means to 'be a
Husker'. The upperclassmen spoke to us about it. When we were the
upperclassmen, we instilled it in those behind us. This wasn't just
something that happened within the swim program.
This year's teams have proven themselves to be Huskers. Comparing last
year to this year, this year's team has never given up. They have always
fought hard. In my opinion, due to poor officiating both the Missouri and
Oklahoma games, Nebraska had some big holes to dig out of. But I digress.
The one thing that concerns me is that the defense has shown a tendency
much like the defense of 2001 (when Colorado ran it up on Nebraska).
Hopefully, this have been fixed. If there is one coach out there that can
recognize and exploit it, this would be Coach Barnett.
I have noticed that Nebraska seems to play Colorado tougher in Boulder
than in Lincoln (this even happened during Coach Osborne's reign at
Nebraska). I think the Nebraska will come out inspired and beat the
Buffaloes in Boulder.
I hope that everyone on this list had a safe and wonder Thanksgiving!
Kickoff is in a few hours. I am getting that nervous butterfly in my
stomach (as I always do before a game!).
Go Big Red!
