I believe the rule was changed to allow a I-A team to count one I-AA victory
every year toward bowl eligibility.

Unfortunately, that doesn't change the outcome. NU will still have to win
five games against I-A teams, assuming an eleven game schedule, and finish
7-4 (6-4 for purposes of bowl eligibility), or 7-5 (6-5 for purposes of bowl
eligibility), assuming a twelve game schedule. In terms of bowl eligibility,
NU would be better off scheduling only one I-AA opponent.
