I doubt the same would have been said about Osborne. Osborne's teams
actually played for a couple of national championships in his first 17
years (81 & 83 seasons). That's not being on the cusp, that IS being a
national championship contender. Osborne's tag line after 17 years
clearly would've been going for the win vs. Miami.
Snyder's team never played for a championship, and his only close team
lost to A&M in the Big 12 championship in 98. His legacy is different,
and also impressive, considering where he brought K State up from.

ESPN.com may have the right tag line for his career: he took KSU to the
cusp of a national championship contender. (The same thing would
probably have been said about Tom Osborne had he retired after his 17th
