"Out of touch with where the program is in adapting to a new system"?
If the problem is (as we hear over and over) getting players experience
with the new system, it is that much MORE important to have more than
one player with experience --- especially at a position both critical
to performance and subject to injuries. That is true not only for this
year, but for next year too.

"All the evidence says stay with Taylor"? You mean the evidence of
how well that was working or the evidence of how difficult it is to
adapt to a new system? I'd contend that the evidence was that it
wasn't working so well with Taylor (although that might not have been
his fault) and that if its so difficult that the system takes years
to learn, it's better to get Beck started learning.
