My memory is getting terrible, but I thought Frankie London was coming in,
(or was it someone coming in for him?) for a series in the second quarter,
because Osborne wanted him to come when the game still counted. The reason I
remember it, in general, is that there was some controversy because the
second-teamer was moving the ball better. Solich brought Crouch in for a
series or two in relief of Newcombe during Newcombe's soph year, too.

That being said, I've changed my position from clearly favoring one side of
this debate to recognizing merits in both positions. I disagree with
Callahan that it was a no-brainer. But I don't fault him, because it was far
from a no-brainer. Rather a difficult strategy to implement. Things go
wrong, the coach gets blamed for bringing in the rookie. Don't bring in the
rookie and you get the heat Callahan is getting now.
