[Husker] I don't understand you people (fwd)

Hey, I'm not comparing Callahan to anyone (did I?). I'm just talking
about this particular decision. Hopefully my questioning it will not
bring the team down. :)

Apparently some do not agree with my assessment and that's ok with me.
However, I don't think I've said a bad thing about Callahan all year
(although I did get in on some pro-Ohio talk which could ally me with
the anti-Callahan wing). So this isn't my out to get Callahan penchant
coming out.

I'm just merely listening to the games, and if Beck is the number 2 qb
-- get him game experience earlier (or Ganz for that matter). If it was
Callahan's plan all year to never play another QB besides Taylor -- I
think that's poor planning. If other coaches including Solich (spell
check tries to correct this as "slouch" btw) and Osborne used the same
methodology (I personally don't think they did -- although there were
some conditioning concerns later in Osborne's career), then I think that
too is a mistake. I always like to see a backup QB get brought in for a
series in the second quarter. It makes me think the coach isn't putting
all of his eggs in one basket. Question from a less than careful
observer is this the first time we've seen another qb besides Taylor in
the game?

Misunderstoodedly,
Josh

You write that as if November 12th was circled on the calendar in BC's
office with a note "Burn Beck's redshirt today!".

Did he KNOW he was going to need Beck yesterday, or in any other game
this season? Obviously not.

Does that mean he shouldn't make him the #2 QB if that's what he's
earned during practice? I'm sure Beck knew that as the #2 QB he could
go in on a moment's notice, or not at all.

I think far too many coaches, college and NFL, keep their starting QB in
the game far too long. Some keep the starting QB in for the entire
game, even when the final result isn't in doubt. Brett Favre seldom
comes out, and IMHO he's starting to pay for all that extra wear and
tear. (But as a Bears fan, I'm not all that unhappy with how the
Packers are playing this year.)

BC does it too. I thought TO and FS kept their starting QBs in too
much, too, archives of the Husker List would show this as a recurring
theme. I suppose if I went back to review 1971 I'd probably think
Devaney had Tagge on the field too much that year, too.

Didn't Terry Bradshaw's backup earn a couple of super bowl rings without
ever taking a single snap in a regular season or playoff game?

This is one time I am definitely in the "Get off BC's back" camp.
