[Husker] I don't understand you people

He probably could have played a series or two against Wake Forest, but
that's about it - assuming, of course, that Beck was anywhere near ready to
play in the second game of the season, which is doubtful. The dilemma raised
by Mike's question is real. Recall that the Huskers got back in the game
against Mizzou when Pinkel put in his freshman QB. If Callahan had put Beck
into a game and he then kicked it away, the howls would be even louder than
they are now.

Whether a redshirt season for Beck would have helped the Huskers is
unknowable now and may always be. The benefits of beating KSU were immediate
and tangible. Callahan made the decision; NU won the game. Callahan has
plenty of problems to rectify next season. If he doesn't fix them, this
won't matter; if he does and the Huskers start winning regularly, no one
will remember it.
