TO did get many of the best young ballplayers in the country,
particularly toward the end of his coaching career. In fact, after
the 1995 season he lost some of the best recruits who became
convinced that they could never, ever start for the Huskers - - so
why sign up for Dr. Tom's squad?
Not only are the amateur recruiting woefully wrong much of the time,
every year the pro draft proves the professionals don't know a whole
heck of a lot about recruiting for the pro teams.
