Jeff:
I currently live in Northern Illinois and have been to 2~3 home games
each season, and at least one away game each season. 2 Big XII championship
games; plus 5 bowl games.
I have my season tickets in Sec 30. When I can not attend, I do find that
in-state relatives are less likely to be 'interested'. I s'pose the
direction of the program has something to do with that sentiment.
I am 'not' concerned about the sell out streak ending. Who cares? The
current powers (HP, SP) have pledged to bring us out of mediocrity. The
path seem quite strange to me; but I'm not callin' the shots. The sell out
streak is not sacred. Each game, the crowd is worth a forced time out and
maybe one illegal procedure. Whoopee! Bowl game streaks have come and
gone. Not losing to teams out of the top 25 is a thing of the past.
The emotional attachment to the program is losing it's luster. "Belonging"
and "Esteem" needs aren't going to be fulfilled by the Husker FB program
anytime in the near future...and that's okay.
My donations to the University support all athletic programs, and for my own
sanity, I make it clear with each endowment that I do not support (HP or
SP). Some day...I'd expect another change in the program's direction.
This week...I will be at the game cheering, like a red clad loon! I'm
taking my brother and two gentlemen who I work with. One has never been to
a college game, while the other thinks that DeKalb (No Illinois Huskies) is
college football heaven. I'll let you know what they think of the game day
atmosphere sometime next week.
