Dave's right about the beginning of Nebraska's (current) football
"greatness". The only bowl game we won those 4 years was the first one
against Auburn (my freshman year). I think Claridge went 68 yards on
the second or third play and it ended up something like 13-7. We lost
to Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl in '65 ('64 season) something like 10-7.
Alabama beat us badly in the Orange Bowl (39-28, but it wasn't that
close) and again in the Sugar Bowl (34-7) when Snake Stabler was the
'Bama Quarterback.
Those were great years - winning routinely during the season, and then
going to a major bowl game.

Nebraska had been close to a national champ in 65, and had been
conference champs in 63,64,65,66. We had been to the Orange Bowl
after the 63 and 65 seasons, Cotton after the 64 season and Sugar
after 66. The only knock on the team was it could not beat Alabama
and could not win in Norman. Entering 67 people expected to win
every game. It was a shock to lose 4 in 67 and look even worse in 68.
