I don't post much at all on any board. I learn a lot from the list and really have come to value all points of view put foward. Just wanted to share my experience and thoughts on some things that happened on Saturday during the game that vexed me greatly.
I attended the game with my 2 brothers and a sister-in-law and wanted to comment on the behavior of two Husker "fans" in the stands. We sat two rows behind the Husker band and had a lot of Husker faithful in the section. A older man (60's) and a young woman (must have been his daughter in her mid 20's) sat behind us and from the opening kickoff, spewed the most hateful venom at the players, coaches, referees, and anything that moved, etc. It got so bad that my brother turned around to tell him that their negativity was wearing on everyone around. This "Husker fan" retorted, "you bought your ticket, I bought mine and I can criticize and say whatever I want. Why don't you just turn around, shut up and you might learn something". The daughter made a comment on the order of "gee, and they probably think this is good football". I was appalled at the level of their smart aleck remarks! I was also sickened by the thought that any of the players' parents may have been in the crow!

heard these hateful comments being directed at the team. And they did continue to jaw, but the others around us commended my brother for speaking up, telling him it was about time someone tried to shut the guy up. I couldn't stop myself from saying to the man "I'm glad I'm not married to you", and said nothing further. He was kind of quiet after that and I just smiled to myself and figured I hit a nerve ;^)
I don't attend many away games, but this was the first time I was privy to this degree of behavior in a Husker fan, the pure vile. I kind of expect it from the competition. I cannot for the life of me, understand why someone would put such importance on an event that is "just a game". I love my Huskers (yes, I do get angry and yell at times--a lot at officials these days ;)) however, I support them through the good times and bad. Have always done. My dad taught me that years ago. He loved the Huskers during the pre-Devaney years and on through until the day he died. But he also put things in perspective as well. Just as in life, we have to roll with the punches. How we deal with these problems and issues and learn to solve them, the journey so to speak, is the main lesson. And these coaches and players are in the midst of trying to solve those very things. The journey this year is painful but I know at some point in time, this too shall pass, and something good will happen.
Other than this dark cloud on the day, the Kansas faithful were very nice to us all. We did not hear one nasty comment from anyone as we walked from the stadium. We were impressed by that, but thought that since they have a long time winning basketball program, that these fans know how to win graciously. I am sure there were incidents around that I don't know about. There always is.
One thing about the game itself, in the 4th quarter, Zac Taylor got nailed behind the line of scrimmage. He barely got up off the ground after the play. The others had to help lift him up (this happened right in front of us). He started to walk toward the sideline, shaking his head as if he couldn't see straight. Then he turned around to walk back to the huddle, kind of staggering, and walked right into #77, like he never saw him. At that point, I was rather worried about Zac. He seemed out of it and I believe on the next play he threw an interception. A few people in front of us saw the same thing and thought he should have been pulled right there and then. In fact, a woman in front of me said "if I were his parents, I would want him out of there NOW". He really took some nasty hits and I just wonder how bad of shape he was in after that play. I wonder if anyone else saw this, that was at the game.
