Well, there is certainly a question whether a 6-5 NU team "deserves" a bowl
game, but the pertinent question is whether they would get one. IIRC, the
Big XII has seven bowl spots more or less locked in.
Texas, Texas Tech and Colorado are locks for a bowl game.
Mizzou is 6-3 (unless they pull off a heroic rally against CU) with games
vs. Baylor and @OSU left. They figure to finish 8-3, or 7-4, which will get
them the fourth spot.
OU is 5-3, with games @OSU (tonight), vs Tech and @BU. Figure them at 7-4,
which will get them the fifth spot. (Even at 6-5, OU will get a bid.)
OSU (3-5, with OU, Tech and @BU left), KSU (4-5, with @NU and MU left) and
A&M (4-4, with @Tech, @OU and TX left) have little or no chance of getting
bowl-eligible.
That leaves KU, ISU and NU:
KU is 5-4, with @TX and ISU left to play.
ISU is 6-3, with CU and @KU left to play.
NU is 5-4, with KSU and @CU left to play. If the Huskers don't beat KSU,
this discussion is moot. And, if they beat both KSU and CU (okay, it's a
reach), they'll get a bowl bid, regardless. So, figure them at 6-5.
KU will lose to TX (the Longhorns are scary-good), and so will need to beat
ISU to get bowl-eligible.
ISU is bowl-eligible, but have two tough games left. The Cyclones could
finish 8-3 (CU almost always loses a game they should win), 7-4, or 6-5.
So, if ISU beats KU, the Jayhawks will not be bowl-eligible, and NU will
likely get a bid. If KU beats ISU, all three teams are bowl-eligible, and it
comes down to whom the bowl guys want. Not clear (to me, anyway) how that
comes out.
