I assume this means competing for players who are only being recruited 
by schools like Kansas and Washington State.  NU's most recent 
commitment, Mike Smith (DE/TE, Las Vegas), was offered a scholarship by 
UNLV and Oregon State only, other than NU.  Will he be able to compete 
in the Big XII?  The coaches obviously think he will.  Adam Carriker 
(from Washington) was offered only by Washington State, Oregon State, 
Oregon and Idaho and he turned out to be a very good player.  Recruiting 
rankings are entertaining but result vary greatly.
