> The volleyball team hasn't been mentioned since August. Not recently. The soccer team - I'd guess I'm the first to even bring them up. I suspect we'll hear about the men's basketball team in January.

Football, baseball and basketball are sports that most people understand
and can discuss an athlete's abilities and the tactics of the sport, even
if the athletes themselves might laugh at our 'knowledge'.

All three sports lend themselves to statistical analysis, too, and NOTHING
fuels a sports discussion better than a wealth of statistics that can be
used to 'prove' darned near anything.

Who here can describe a screen pass, what sets it up and when to call it?

Can you do the same for any volleball play? (Who here is even aware that they
call plays in volleyball?)

We've had years when there was more talk about the volleyball team than
this year, though usually it doesn't pick up until the conference tournament
or the NCAA's. This year's team has the burden of having been #1 from the
get-go, so they've got HUGE expectations to live up to.

Soccer is one of those sports where you either get it or it bores you to tears,
and most of the former don't post. Besides, North Carolina usually wins the
NCAA women's tournament anyway.

We don't get a lot of wrestling posts, either. Back when the Huskers hosted
the Cliff Keen we usually got some wrestling posts during that meet.

I don't recall the last time the subject of gymnastics came up here, or golf
or bowling or any of the other 'non-revenue' sports UNL participates in.
