I want Callahan to succeed, because if he fails, I fear it will be the
beginning of a long, dark period for 'Husker football -- similar to the
Gibbs / Schnellenberger / Blake era at Oklahoma before they hired Bobby
Stoops. (Anybody remember the score of Osborne's 250th win in 1997, playing
Oklahoma? 69-7 -- I'll save y'all the trouble of Googling it. Makes 31-24
look pretty good in comparison, doesn't it?)

I like the focus on blue-chip recruiting that Callahan has brought to NU. I
hope the AD and the administration are willing to give Callahan at least 5
years to get his players and system in place before they pull the plug.

I'm not crazy about the "f'ing hillbillies" or the throat-slashing gesture,
but I can't blame Callahan for losing it in the heat of battle, especially
because he had a front-row seat to the final table at last weekend's
Oklahoma Hold-'Em tournament. I can understand letting offensive linemen get
away with holds inside the shoulder pads -- but when they pull our guys'
jerseys and tackle them, it's flagrant, and I get upset with the no-calls as
well. (My children now fear me when football games are on TV -- they think
"Holding" is a cuss word, as many times as I yell it ... 8^)
