No question.  Now the department is paying the price, and if fund raising continues
to lag,  SP will pay the price.

One of the unintended consequences of replacing a staff that has been around 
for a long time is all of the relationships they have with the alum & donors. 
I venture a guess that there were a number of people unhappy with FS's 
decision to replace staff in 2002,  there were very strong feelings for the
OL coaches.  

If the new staff had come in winning I think the job would have been much easier, 
but fund raising is very tough now.
