[Husker] Callahan

I have this fear that this gesture may take on a life
of it's own; it is something that Callahan may have a
hard time living down. Remember Bobby Knight and the
chair? Nobody remembers the awful calls that led to
Knight tossing the chair anymore.
Callahan's confrontation with the officials is a sign
that Callahan is defending his players, and that is a
good thing. I really don't have a problem with his
confrontation with Steve Usechek.
However, the gesture afterwards was a sign of poor
sportsmanship by the coach, and really is
indefensible. I don't think anything is going to come
of it, except that we'll be treated to periodic
reminders of it in the future, especially if Callahan
has another gaffe.
A lot of this uproar could have been diffused
yesterday if he would have explained that he was
frustrated, took responsibility, and that he now
realizes that it was inappropriate. But that ship has
sailed now. As the coach said: "The damage is done."
