[Husker] Expectations

People who thought the program was headed down the drain under the last
coach, for the most part, had lower expectations. The thinking is: the
program was already down, therefore it will take a few years to get it back.
We might have to endure some mediocre seasons. Not as big a deal.

On the other hand, people who never bought the down-the-drain rap and saw
one 7-7 season as one 7-7 season, looked at the quick turnaround to 10-3 as
an indication that the program was ready to contend again. Already at ten
wins with a young team full of sophomore stars (Bullocks, Smith, Adams,
Ross, Washington, to name a few) it easily could have been at 11 or 12 wins
with no coaching change. So, yes, even with a coaching change, and the
couple steps backward to install a new offense, expectations would be much
higher. IN this case the thinking is: One 5-loss or even a 6-loss season
would be understandable, but why endure more mediocrity than that?

Always the optimist, I still think we have better than 50-50 chances to beat
Kansas and K-state, and, although less than 50-50 to beat CU there, if we
win those two, it gives momentum and a good chance for the upset. No time to
give up now.
