>From my understanding, Milt wanted another season but with all the
coaching changes and the fact that Tim Albin had used up all of his
eligibility as a grad coach and we wanted to keep him Milt became
expendable. I think the bitterness stems from the fact that Milt had
planned on retiring when McBride left but Solich talked him into staying
so the team wouldn't lose two coaching stalwarts at once. Thus when Milt
later on wanted to go out his own way he wasn't able to. Another factor
that made Milt expendable was the fact that he hadn't been recruiting
since '99 I believe. That was one of the stipulations of Milt not
retiring since his knees and especially his ankles were really going
south on him. Hopefully he is correct about the direction of the team.

In a nutshell: the Huskers are on the right track and his leaving wasn't
altogether voluntary. I got the impression that Frank Solich isn't on
Uncle Milty's Christmas card list.
