On the same subject, it appears at first glance that Miami, which is
a lower seed than Nebraska, has an easier regional. The #2 seed in
Miami is Mississippi St. and the #2 seed in Lincoln is NC St. Does Miami get an easier regional because they are Miami or is this
just a result of geographic considerations (although I'm guessing
sending Mississippi St to Lincoln and NC St to Miami wouldn't have
increased total mileage much and might have decreased it)? Why does
NU have such a tough #2 seed?

In NU's regional we get the third lowest RPI team, a regional team in CU (the next northern site is Tennessee) and an ACC team. With the SEC and ACC receiving 16 bids I bet they had a hard time finding the right bracket for them. They managed to keep them out of the same brackets except 4 times - and there it is an SEC team against an SEC team. and then a #1 SEC seed would play a #1 ACC seed. NC St finished 6th in the ACC regular season, and they went 1-2 in the ACC tourney, first beating #3 Miami 2-1, and then losing to #7 Virginia 12-2 and #2 Clemson 5-4. NC St has a high RPI because they play in ACC:

# 2 GA Tech
# 6 Clemson
# 7 Miami
# 8 UNC
# 12 NC St.
# 23 FSU
# 24 UV
