I guess, to me, that is why I believe the pitching staff carried
the team and how important pitching is in baseball. What you say about
the hitting and defense was true a lot of the time but the overall
pitching was great, especially Dorn and Chamberlain. In team batting
average through 5-15-05 the Huskers were not ranked in the top 30, in
team ERA they were ranked second with 2.47, in fielding percentage the
ranking was 14th with a .973 percentage, were not ranked in the top 30
in scoring, were not ranked in the top 30 in home runs per game, were
not ranked in the top thirty in triples per game, were not ranked in
the top 30 in doubles per game, were not ranked in the top thirty in
slugging percentage, were not ranked in the top 30 in stolen bases, were
not ranked in the top thirty in double plays per game, but WERE ranked
seventh in winning percentage with .774.

I don't mean to bore anyone with statistics but looking at this it
is pretty obvious what pitching meant to NU this year. It is an old old
adage in baseball but good pitching will stop good hitting most of the time.
