     I would say a and b.  All through life situations and outcomes make us adjust our thinking.  After it is over we do come to realize we didn't have or allow a good situation before and now realize it needs to be changed.  All things can't always be foreseen.  I don't know how many here have ever been in court or involved in a trial but attorneys are advising all the time to do or not do something until the trial is over.  That wouldn't be unusual either.
