[Husker] Big XII to Dissolve?

The piece Doug references is at the end of a column primarily devoted to the
proposal to eliminate the divisions within the conference, and have the top
two teams play in the championship game. I would be real interested to hear
who the sources are for these rumors; I don't buy it.

Moreover, the notion that CU might go into the Pac Ten is hard to swallow.
Those schools offer much fuller sports programs than CU, which doesn't even
have a baseball team and continually struggles to make ends meet. Hard to
see a fit. Some CU supporters have labored under the delusion that they have
more in common academically with the elite schools of the Pac 10 (Cal,
Stanford) than with the football factories of the Big XII. They don't
understand that they are not in the same league (literally or figuratively)
as any of the California schools. Indeed, CU is not on the same level
academically as UT, A&M, Baylor or ISU.

This same belief in CU's academic superiority often results in their
disparaging other Big XII schools, and Nebraska in particular. Hence, the
statement that NU's "lax academic standards" would leave the Huskers out in
the cold must be taken with several grains of salt.
