Actually he did deserve to be ridden out of town. He said "... there was no nigger in him" when referring to a Negro ball player. Comments like that are unacceptable, especially by a person in a leadership position at a university. Governments cannot directly change the way people think; however, they can change the way people act by taking action against this type of behavior. These kind of comments are not once in a blue moon mistakes; they are evidence of the true feelings of that individual.

Sure, apologists out there for racism, like Tim, will say what great man he was; but the fact of the matter is, he got caught revealing his true character. Thirty years ago in Oklahoma he would have kept his job. Thank God those days are over.

deserve
to be ridden out of town on this rail. The player he
spoke
of wanted him to stay on. Another black player on
the
squad had the same view as did the father of the first
athlete. This is another example of not saying
anything that
might make anyone uncomfortable taken to its logical
extreme."

I am sorry Kerry, but after reading the comments that
he made, he needed to resign. There is no excuse for
the comments and no way for him to explain his way out
of it. It is a very sad situation, but there was no
way anyone in his position should be allowed to remain
on the job after the ugly comments he made, not once,
but twice.
There are times when I feel comments are taken
incorrectly, or blown out of proportion. However,
this is not one of those times. He needs some serious
help and some education.
