Steve Octavien trains with a F-150 pickup.

The drill: One guy pushes the truck to the end of the lot; the other sits
behind the wheel, pushing the brake to prevent a crushed bumper or broken
fence. Then they switch. Back and forth under the Florida sun.

Jay Moore adjusts to a new position.

No longer do Moore and Adam Carriker line up strictly at left end and right
end, respectively. Carriker, the base end, lines up to the tight end side of
the formation. Moore is away from the tight end.

Retired Tenopir can't get Big Red out of blood

Tenopir refuses to join the old guard in complaining about the changed
culture at Nebraska under Bill Callahan. He said he embraces it.
"People worry about the old traditions," Tenopir said. "Nebraska's
tradition will never leave, I don't care who's coaching. This is a
tremendously capable staff. They'll get 'er done."

The Oklahoma drill is getting rave reviews from the players.

Cory Ross lined up behind the offensive linemen and took the handoff. Once
he cleared the line, the only thing standing between Ross and the end zone
was sophomore safety Travis Gingery. After a burst of speed and a sickening
thud, Gingery was laid out on the turf and Ross scooted to freedom.
Ross' hit on Gingery was a perfect example of why Coach Bill Callahan
implemented the drill.

 Panico putting boos behind

Panico says the talk "went in one ear and out the other," and that he's
ready to fight for his spot this spring as at least four players, including
I-back Cory Ross, vie to become the new return specialist.
He's put on roughly 20 pounds of muscle in the offseason and is serious
when he says he'll give Ross and Marque McCray and whoever a fight for the
punt-return spot.
