Greetings,

Even though Spring Practice is about to start and inevitably along with it the requisite moaning and complaining about BC, SP, tradition lost, bla bla bla...I thought I would post a little something about the Husker Baseball squad.

First, Alex Gordon was named National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball after hitting .560 with 4 HR, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored in 6 games last week.

Second, the squad has won 10 staright games and is 18-2 overall. They jumped from #21 to #9 in this week's Collegiate Baseball poll, from #23 to #16 in the Sports Weekly poll and from #23 to #20 in the Baseball America poll.

They finish up the last 2 games of a 12-game homestand today and tomorrow versus Western Illinois before starting B12 Conference Play this weekend at Kansas.

For those of you unable to see the Huskers live and who have NETV, CSTV or Fox Sports Net Regional, the Husker television schedule is as follows:

4/5	Creighton (@ Rosenblatt)(NETV Only)
4/6	Iowa (NETV/CSTV)
4/16	@ aTm (Fox Sports Net)
4/23	Baylor (NETV/CSTV)
5/7	Mizzou (NETV/CSTV)
5/21	Kansas State (NETV/CSTV)

On a side note, former Husker Coach Dave Van Horn is faring pretty well at his alma mater Arkansas, guiding the Razorbacks to an identical 18-2 record but with a #5 ranking in both the Collegiate Baseball and Sports Weekly polls and a #8 ranking in the Baseball America poll.

Sorry for the interuption, please feel free to return to the senseless tirades about football...

Sincerely,

Jeffrey Volk
