I think you hit the nail on the head with this one, Bob- "hearing".  I think 
15 - 20 years ago, we didn't have the resources at our fingertips like we do 
today. Online news, updated regularly, Many news channels on cable and 
satellite. Maybe the kids haven't changed that much. Maybe now it is all 
over the internet, and cable and it only seems like it is happening more, 
because.....like a tree falling in a forest......we "hear" about it.
