Good Morning All:
Several questions have arisen after my post yesterday on Coach Collier's contract, and I think I have a few answers.
1. Coach Collier's contract was originally written up by Bill Byrne, however Steve Pederson extended the contract to 2008 after the conclusion of the 2003-2004 season. In extending it though he ended the "rollover" in the contract. It was originally a four year rollover contract with a April 1st termination (of the rollover) deadline.
2. I agree with Skylar's comment about the "double standard" of football vs. basketball and I've said this before, NU has never been a basketball powerhouse and because of that the basketball coach has more leeway than Bill Callahan (or any football coach) will ever have here. Furthermore I'd still like to know who we are going to get to come in here and at what amount of money. If Coach Collier succeeds I'm sure he'll get a raise but nothing like what we'll have to pay the next basketball coach.
3. I believe Dave VanHorne left for both reasons. I'm sure Arkansas paid him quite a bit more than NU did (or could justify) and as previously noted Arkansas is home to both he and his wife.
