> Yes you could say that, but you would be wrong.  Illinois was a traditonal power in the Big 10, NU never has been a traditional power in the Big 8/12.  Even under Danny Nee when we were going to the Big Dance every year, NU was not considered a basketball power.  

Sorry, but I grew up in Illinois, and they were NEVER considered a
basketball power by the people who live in the state.  Before Bill
Self came they had never won the Big 10 tournament, and hadn't won
the conference outright since 1952, though they had shared it 3 times
in roughly 50 years.  Aside from 1989, they hadn't been in the Final
Four since 1951.  

Yes, they've been a bit better basketball school over the years than 
Nebraska has been, but a traditional power that recruits are eager to
go to?  No way!
