Point(s) well taken. But those Baylor successes are now in the past.

Mike referenced that the SMU sanctions killed the Southwest Conference. He
also alluded to the threat of Baylor's FB team's potential damage to the Big
XII.
With those thoughts in mind, could the Baylor BB sanctions not have further
repercussions?

I realize that the Baylor BB program may not be as important to Baylor's
overall program as BB is to St. Johns or FB to NU (or even SMU), but could
the future damaging effect of these sanctions not permeate into Baylor's
entire athletic department? If so, it could hurt the Big XII in other
sports as well.

I don't know. Just food for thought.

> What do you mean by a stronger member? Are you talking about ONLY football
and men's basketball? If you look at Baylor Athletics top to bottom, they
run a very competetive department - especially in women's sports. A look at
Baylor Sports with the Sport, B12 Ranking and National Ranking is:
>
> Sport B12 National
> Baseball T-1 4
> M-Basketball 12 NR
> W-Basketball 1 1 (National Champions)
> M-Cross Country - NR
> W-Cross Country - 16
> Football 6(S) NR
> M-Golf 7 44
> W-Golf 3 33
> Soccer 9 NR
> Softball 4 10
> M-Tennis 1 2
> W-Tennis 1 14
> M-Track 9 T-17
> W-Track 3 T-21
> Volleyball 9 NR
>
> Overall that looks like 1 National Champion and 8 of their 15 Varsity
Sports ranked in that sport's national Top 25. Also keep in mind that Baylor
has an athletic deparment budget that ranks in the middle to bottom of the
Big 12.

Varsity Sports ranked in that sport's national Top 25. Also keep in mind
that Nebraska has an athletic department budget that ranks towards the top
of the Big 12, number 2 only to Texas in overall spending if I am not
mistaken.

> When you take a look at Big 12 Championships in athletics for 2004/2005
seasons, you find Nebraska is #1 and Baylor is #2. The championships are as
follows, with the school, B12 regular season titles, B12 tournament titles
and totals listed:
>
> School R T Total
> Nebraska 6 1 7
> Baylor 3 2 5
> Texas 2 2 4
> Ok State 2 2 4

I don't think Baylor is embrassing itself when it comes to Big 12 athletics
and if the barometer is football and men's basketball, then we aren't
fairing much better as Nebraska and Baylor are the only Big 12 member
institutions whose Men's Basketball programs LOST money is 2004/2005,
Nebraska Hoops to the tune of -$475,000 or so.
