The cannot play any non-conference games, but they can play the conference
schedule, the post-season conference tournament, and if they qualify, they 
can compete in post-season play.  The chances of that are very small, of 
course, given that they won't have any wins from the 15 or so non-conference 
games they would normally have played.

When SMU football was given the death penalty, that pretty much set the
wheels in motion that led to the dissolution of the SWC.  I suspect the
reason for letting them keep the conference schedule was in the hopes that 
this doesn't kill off the Big 12.
