This is absolutely correct. For HS seniors, college juniors and draft eligible sophmores (21+ rule) the MLB team that drafts that player has from the draft until the first day of classes to negotiate a contract with that player. For JUCO players, and provided that they do not attend a regular college, the team retains that players rights until 1 week or so before the following year's draft. The same holds true for college seniors who go unsigned or for players who are drafted and do not return to school.

>>NU's team will look quite different next year -

The team will look substantially different next year, but I think we are in pretty good shape to contend for the B12 Title again.

Amongst pitchers we have Chamberlain and Dorn coming back as #1 and #2 starters with Watson coming back to hold down the bullpen. Chamberlain is an All-American and Dorn and Watson are Freshman All-Americans. That leaves us 1 starter role and a bunch of middle relievers to fill amongst a plethora of candidates. Chamberlain will be a Jr, Dorn a Soph and Watson a RSoph.

With position players we are in OK shape too I think. Nimmo and Gerch saw a ton of time this season with Gerch showing you a lot in the Regional. They will take the outfield positions vacated by Boyer and Bruce/Fusilier. Nimmo will be a Soph and Gerch a RSoph.

On the infield, Christy and Buckman will lead a pretty new group of infielders but as Sr will be looked to for leadership, especially Christy.

I haven't checked to see how the draft affected the recruiting class coming in, but it appeared to be a pretty strong class.

Probably the biggest question mark is what will happen to Childress and my first guess is that he is gone unless SP can reach into his magical bag of cash and get him to stay.

Just my thoughts.

Have a great day.
