Tarleton State college is located in Stephenville Texas. My son got his
masters and bachelors degree at Tarleton, and still works for the
University.

Whitten first joined Tarleton as head coach in 1996, but left after one
season to become the offensive coordinator at the University of Wyoming.

In 1995, Tarleton was 1-10 and in 1996 under Whitten, went 5-5. Coach
Whitten earned LSC Coach of the Year honors that season when Tarleton went
from the league's worst offense to leading the conference in total offense
and passing offense.

Whitten left Tarleton following the 1996 season, and became offensive
coordinator at Wyoming. He spent one year there before reentering coaching
in 1999 as offensive coordinator at Sam Houston State University. After five
seasons as Tarleton's head coach, Todd Whitten had a 38-19 record for a .667
winning percentage.

Under Whitten's direction, the Tarleton offense led the Lone Star Conference
in total offense and passing offense in 1996, 2000 and 2003.

Tarleton has ranked as one of the nation's top passing and scoring offenses
in each of the last three seasons.

After reading Whitten's bio, it doesn't surprise me that HE was the "shoo
in" for the Sam Houston job, not Turner, especially with his previous
experience at Sam Houston as the offensive coordinator and head coaching
experience at Tarleton.
