I don't remember where I heard it, but I have been told that with proper
mechanics and practice just about anyone who can play college ball can
learn to shoot 75% or better from the line.
It's possible that the NCAA's limit on practice time can enter into this,
though I think that players CAN practice in the gym on their own.
It probably takes a few hours of work with a coach to get the mechanics
right, then it takes MANY MANY reps to build up the proficiency.
That's where I think most players fall short. They don't want to take
the time, to shoot 500 or 1000 freethrows EVERY DAY until they master it,
and then KEEP shooting hundreds more every day.
The superstars are the ones who find that time to improve their skills,
even after they're already famous for the skills they have.
Those are the names that get enshrined in sports halls of fame, too.
Coincidence? I think not.
