One could also ask the question, is this the kind of
athletic director any school would want leading the
program. When you put this story next to previous
denials of plans to fire coaches, denials of job
offers, denials of agreements on games, etc. that
later turn out to be not-quite-the-case, this sounds
just one more example.

Also, note that the comment from Pelini was never
quoted in this World-Herald story, despite being in
the headline.  So what DID Pelini say to give the
Omaha reporter that indication?
