[Husker] Nebraska High School talent 2005

I disagree Todd.

Player development is one of the areas that fell apart in the past few
years. Very rarely did you see players get better after they left Lincoln
like you saw with Kelsay and Vandenbosch.

It is the opinion of some respected sports medicine people that a lot of the
injuries that plagued Solich's tenure were the result of improper S&C
practices. Also there was a laxity in the supervision of the players and
their lifting, (guys getting their cards signed off without doing the work.)
This is what Dukes was referring to. All of this contributed to the fat,
poorly conditioned linemen we saw a couple of years ago. Also it is why
walkons haven't had the impact they did several years ago. They haven't been
developing. Brian Bailey started things back in the right direction and I am
confident that Kennedy will keep the improvement going at warp speed. In my
opinion, Kennedy's hiring will have the greatest impact of any of the
hires.

Also Solich did not have them wanting to attend NU. Just as we see financial
reality coming into play in the athletic department, it was coming into play
in the decisions of Nebraska high school players. Instead of walking on at
the dear old U they were taking scholarships to New Mex. St., CSU, Wyoming
and elsewhere. This is no one's fault, just a reflection of the realities of
economics today.

Gerald
