[Husker] Honk If You Want to Play DB

This is an interesting post to me seeing as I was listening to a sports
talk show yesterday. On it the host talked about how the 49ers and Bill
Walsh's version of the WCO usually just ran about eight types of plays
that everyone knew was coming but couldn't stop. Compare that with
Callahan's tome of plays and maybe, just maybe, we should look in to
simplifying Callahan's WCO. Especially with college kids since we do
hear that it takes about four or five seasons to learn even the more
simplified WCO. At times it was obvious that Dailey was overwhelmed with
the amount of plays he was required to know. Heck, he had over 100 on
his wrist band. It's always been said that when a player is thinking he
isn't playing his best and that seems to be very apparent here IMHO.

What I find amusing is that a lot of people on this
list like to point out that it is supposedly easier to
learn the defensive side of football. Yet most on this
list expect Harrison Beck, Marlon Lucky, and Leon
Jackson to step in next year and turn the Huskers
around while the defensive recruites wont make much of
a difference. I would suspect it will be the exact
opposite with the size of Callahans playbook and
having to learn all of the audibles and stuff that
come with it. I would look for more defensive players
to step forward and contribute next year before
offensive players do so. With all of the players who
have left the program so far this off season what do
the listers expect from the Huskers next year? I am
guessing we could be worse then this year and will be
lucky to go to a bowl game. It would not surprise me
if we go 4-7 or 3-8. I think Mike might have hit the
nail on the head when he predicted that 2005 might be
worse then 2004.
