If we get Reggie Smith (S out of Edmond, Oklahoma, Oklahoma's #1 rated
player), then I think he COULD contribute immediately, although I
think he'll be able to contribute as a punt returner before he's ready
to start at safety. He says it's down to OU, NU, and USC for him. Many
people think he's a strong NU lean based on some his comments and
behaviors earlier in the recruiting season. Unfortunately, he won't be
announcing his decision at the Army All-American game Saturday .. he's
going to make us all wait a bit longer than that. He would be a real
jewel to add to our class, and taking 3 of the consensus top 4 kids
out of Oklahoma is a jewel in itself. :)
On another recruiting note, the two other Oklahoma kids who have
committed to us and are at the AAA game (Craig Roark and Phillip
Dillard) are tearing things up according to practice reports. Roark is
an OG. The 5-star stud DT who lined up against him in drills
apparently had to quit early one day due to exhaustion and a possible
concussion. Dillard, an LB, is really impressing observers with his
speed and vision and his abilities in coverage. They can't understand
how a 240-lb linebacker can keep up with a receiver running a pattern.
