      No two situations are ever exactly alike.  No rule is never without 
exception.  But, the bottom line is it typically has nothing to do with the 
assistants that are in place when a Head Coach is fired.  It would be a 
pretty unusual situation to have a coach come in from the outside and 
retain all or most all of the previous coach's assistants.  You don't ever 
see a new President elected and keep the outgoing President's Cabinet.  I 
know in that case there are politics involved but even if an incoming 
President comes in from the same party as the outgoing President very 
seldom are Cabinet members retained.  Each President wants his own people 
even if the Cabinet before had capable people they are probably gone when 
the new President takes office.  The same with a football coach.  They just 
want their own people.  It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the 
capability of the people which were left over or what kind of roots or 
tenure they had.
