Not always.  My favorite example is Buddy Ryan,  DC for the Bears in the early 80s.  Ditka
had to keep him & that unit won the Super Bowl.

A more recent example is the TB Bucs.  Monte Kiffen has been the DC since 95, Jon Gruden
was hired & kept the D staff in tact.  They won the Super Bowl his first year. Check out their
site & see how many assistants have been with the Bucs longer than Gruden.

It will be interesting to see if Les Miles keeps any assistants at LSU,  no announcements have
been made.

Of course if the HC feels that his old college drinking buddy is qualified to be DC, I certainly hope
they all get fired sooner rather than later.
